Today was no different. She was bored, and it was a Wednesday, so she decided she would hit up the little farmer's market that came to town once a week. Clio from Annerb would bring the freshest fruits and veggies from the island and sell them to all the rich folk who could afford them.
It wasn't that Tinley was hungry. Because she lived at the orphanage, she never wanted for anything, really. Other than a mom and dad to actually, you know, love her. No, the problem as I said before, was that Tinley was bored. It didn't help matters that Ronan was off in Dahlin saving up money so that Tinley could move in with him when she settled, or that the rest of her guy friends were playing some stupid game she didn't feel like playing right now.
She walked innocently through the little walkways of the market, taking a look at the fresh produce. She'd shift her eyes around every once in awhile before slipping something from the stands into her side bag. A little corn? Sure. Some peaches? She'd take three, thank you! Suddenly her boredom was gone, and a smile was on her face. See--it always worked.
But as she rounded a corner and shoved some cherry tomatoes in a free pocket, all hell broke loose. An old man with a heavy country accent started shouting some expletives at her before she could even take a step.
"Shoot," she whispered under her breath. She didn't wast a moment before she took off running, racing down the walkways, pushing clio out of her way as she ran for her life.
